In Australia, writer Alex Ross drives from Sydney to Bourke (and back) while listening to nothing but the cantatas of J.S. Bach. He also took photographs along way and created a mini-photo essay of the experience.

In spite of the bliss, he can’t avoid learning about current events.

…I checked into a roadside motel and was shocked to see news of the Japanese earthquake. It looked like the world ending.
