Early music performance reviews of note.

  • Mixed Bag of Purcell: There were reservations about Andreas Scholl and Philippe Jaroussky‘s performance at the Barbican, London, including the backup band Ensemble Artaserse, “who spent forever trying to get in tune, only to play frequently out of it.”
  • Memorable London Debut: The Cleveland Baroque Orchestra, better known as Apollo’s Fire,  made a first appearance at Wigmore Hall.
  • Musical Maladies and Melodies: The European Union Baroque Orchestra‘s York Early Music Christmas Festival concert was just what the doctor ordered.
