In 2006, jazz great Dave Brubeck granted Vanity Fair an interview in the form of a Proust Questionnaire, named after French writer Marcel Proust, who popularized a way of giving brief and vivid responses to questions about one’s personality.

Brubeck has, without a doubt, given thousands of interviews throughout his lifetime. And you can imagine that it’s probably no big deal for him to be candid about himself.

Yet, I wasn’t expecting the answer to the following:

VF: If you could choose what to come back as, what would it be?

DB: Johann Sebastian Bach.
