In March of 2011, New Zealand will receive its first fully-staged Handel opera, produced by the NBR New Zealand Opera. Performances of Xerxes will take place in Auckland and Wellington.

German conductor Wolfgang Katschner will direct his period-instrument ensemble Lautten Compagney, imported for the production.

The soloists are Tobias Cole (Xerxes), Tiffany Speight (Romilda), William Purefoy (Arsamene), and Kristen Darragh (Amastre). Australian Roger Hodgman is set to direct.
