Celtic Viol II

After listening to both volumes of Jordi Savall‘s “Celtic Viol” series, I prefer volume two over the first. For starters, there’s definitely more variety in the latest, no doubt due in part to the fine contribution by bodhran player Frank McGuire.

However, Savall doesn’t just play a treble viol, but also a bass, which further expands the character of the pieces he explores. Andrew Lawrence-King is as stalwart as ever.

Dancing in the Isles

“Fun” is the first word that came to mind when I heard Musica Pacifica‘s latest CD. The program is filled with a delightful mix of baroque and traditional works, continuing their finely honed practice of tackling fascinating and virtuosic music.
