In celebration of Johann Sebastian Bach‘s 326th birthday, here’s the J.S. Bach Foundation (St. Gallen, Switzerland) in a performance of the opening chorus from cantata “Ach wie flüchtig, ach wie nichtig,” BWV 26, directed by Rudolf Lutz.

Ah, how fleeting, ah how insignificant
is the life of mankind!
As a mist suddenly appears
and then quickly disappears again,
behold! so is our life.

I thought his birthday was today (21st) but according to wikipedia it’s on 31 March 1685 (Using the new calendar) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johann_Sebastian_Bach Nice recording! 🙂

  • I was going by the Grove Dictionary, which recognizes the old calendar. Have you taken a look at #bachchat on Twitter? They’re observing it today, as well.
