More early music links of note.

  • Hipp to the sounds of Early Music (Independent Online): A week of early music workshops, lectures, and concerts are to take place in Cape Town, South Africa, as part of EarlyMusic 2011. Guest musicians from Europe—Verena Fischer, Carin van Heerden, Antoinette Lohmann, and Balázs Máté—are featured in events designed to foster musical exchange.
  • Music from the movies has a hold on me that Bach can’t match (Telegraph): Rowan Pelling would like to say the works of J.S. Bach are superior to film music, but cannot. Its calorie-free attraction is too strong: “we want to resist its melodramatic lure, but it sneaks up on us, like a mugger in a dark alley.”
  • Renowned Serbian Musician to Perform in Cuba (Cuban News Agency):  Edin Karamazov, a.k.a Sting’s lutenist, will perform pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach and Cuban guitarist Leo Brouwer at the Minor Basilica of the Convent of St. Francis of Assisi in Havana.
