Everybody loves J.S. Bach‘s music. But not everyone knows what to listen to or where they should begin.

A really great place to start is with his cantatas—there are literally hundreds to choose from. Out of that sizable mass of music, there are a few that you should know about.

Weichet nur, betrübte Schatten, BWV 202, and Ich habe genug, BWV 32, are two works that are very beautiful and touching, each feature vocal soloists accompanied by a small orchestra.

The Sarasa Ensemble has released a beautiful recording of both cantatas, which includes a third, Liebster Jesu, mein Verlangen, BWV 32.

The ensemble’s vocal soloists are mezzo-soprano Dominique Labelle and baritone Sanford Sylvan.
