George Frideric Handel‘s “Messiah.”

Are you surprised?

According to the online classical music events magazine Bachtrack, which generated statistics from numerous worldwide organizations, there were 125 performances of “Messiah” (forty five in the US alone).

The number strikes me as a bit low, but then it’s only a statistic.

Johann Sebastian Bach made one of the other top of the year lists. He was the composer with the most works performed (347 total).

Bachtrack’s statictics beg comparison with Anthony Tommasini’s theoretical top ten greatest composers. Don’t you think?
