Video: Bejun Mehta Sings Handel
Not all Handel arias are created alike, some are attractive and pleasant while others have an infectious quality that immediately catches your attention.
The following aria, Sento la gioia, falls into the latter category. It comes from the opera Amadigi and is sung by the title character during the final act.
The performers are Bejun Mehta, countertenor, and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra (Rene Jacobs, dir.). The video is produced by Harmonia Mundi, part of a new recording of Handel opera arias entitled “Ombra Cara.” The performance is so good it never gets old.
Here’s a translation* of the first section:
I feel joy
Glowing in my breast
And already in heaven
The star of the God of Love
