A while back I wondered why North America doesn’t have the equivalent of a European Union Baroque Orchestra (EUBO), a world-class period instrument ensemble made up of young post-conservatory musicians who have yet to fully establish themselves in a particular scene. (The post is here.)

To give you an idea of how good the ensemble is and show you how much fun they have in concert, here’s a video of EUBO performing Heinrich Biber‘s Battalia, a dance suite which evokes the sounds of war and the character of a soldier.

The performance was given at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw in July of 2010 (directed by Lars Ulrik Mortensen).

The violin soloist is Huw Daniel.
