Daphné on the Wings of the Wind
At the 2010 Festival Musique et Mémoire (“Music and Memory Festival”), the French ensemble-in-residence Le Baroque Nomade presented an unusual program entitled Daphné, the name of a fictitious ship (also a woman and a song) and its trip around the world.
The voyage carries the listener “from Venise to Flanders then America, Philippines, China, India and Abyssinia, and her homeward route, through the Caucasus and Istanbul,” with representative music found at every stop.
The following video, produced by Classique News, gives excellent highlights of the entire production (in French with English subtitles).
Le Baroque Nomade is directed by Jean-Christoph Frisch (pictured).
