Founded decades ago by John Eliot Gardiner, the Monteverdi Choir (pictured) has recently been chosen by an international jury, brought together by Gramophone Magazine, as the world’s best choir. Many will agree with the choice while others will fall somewhere between skepticism and outright disapproval.

However you might feel, the vocal ensemble is, at the very least, one of today’s finest.

Here’s a video of the Monteverdi Choir and the English Baroque Soloists performing the opening chorus, Jauchzet, frohlocket, from Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio,” BWV 248/1.

A great performance (recorded live).
