Without hesitation, Jean-Baptiste Lully‘s chaccone from the “opera” Phaeton is my all-time favorite, whether in the original orchestral version or in a famous keyboard setting by Jean-Henri d’Anglebert.

Here’s one of North America’s finest baroque orchestras, Tafelmusik, with a gorgeous interpretation (directed by Jean Lamon).
